As a simple DVD player this unit is good for the money. The fit and finish is above average with the sound also above average and the video quality as good as you can get from a small screen. I did return it because the sound and video do not turn off when the top is closed. The unit was purchased to be used both as a portable unit and as a main DVD unit for a bedroom. When hooked up to a TV there is no video button or built in switch that turns off the video or sound when hooked up externally to a TV. As a result you need to turn the volume down otherwise you can hear it from the unit. More importantly there is a glow from the unit as the video screen is still showing the movie. Additionally, this is a lousy miss by Sony as the battery has been depleted on more than one occasion as my child has closed the top on a movie when it was over and the video screen remained on draining the battery. My portable Panasonic and Toshiba both had the ability to both automatically and manually switch the video/ sound off.

I bought this DVD player for the backseat passengers to watch movies on weekend trips. Over a 3 1/2 month period, the Sony DVD player was used on about six or seven trips, for two or three hours each…less than 20 hours of total use. At that point, it began “freezing up” during the opening menu or after about the first five minutes of the movie. At that point, it was 100 days old, and the 90 day labor warranty had expired.

Sony has offered to replace it with a refurbished player for $33, after I pay $12 shipping and insurance to return it to Sony. So, for $45, I will get a refurbished replacement unit that comes with…you guessed it…a 90 day warranty.

Over the past decade, Sony’s once great reputation for high quality products has been going down hill. I will replace this DVD player with either a better one from Panasonic…a company that still makes great products…or I’ll buy a “Brand X” player that is cheap and just throw it away when it stops playing.

When the Sony was working, the picture was nice, the sound through headphones was okay, and the sound through its tiny speakers was thin and annoying to hear. The Sony player is NOT better than the cheaper units sold by other companies…customers pay extra for the Sony “name”…a name that no longer means high quality products.

The battery life is about three hours, not the advertised five hours…enough to watch one long movie, or two short movies.

got this tv the friday before supwebowl sunday. it felt like i was on the sideline recording the game myself. this is my third hdtv. and the picture on this tv put my other 2 hdtvs to shame. when i hooked up my ps3 and 360 to it. i seen details that i never seen before. it even helped me get a few extra kills online on modern warfare 2. because on my other 47` 1080p tv it was kinda hard to see on the maps with snow or rain. but everything was really clear with this tv and i could see other players hiding or coming from further away. i always used to think blu ray movies werent that much better then normal dvd. but after watching a blu ray movie on this tv. i changed my mind. i have watched all my older blu ray movies again and plan to never buy another normal dvd again. this is a great hdtv. i think anyone who buys it will enjoy it very much.

My husband and I had a very old tv and said we wouldn’t renew it until it died on us. However, we watch a lot of English soccer and decided just before Christmas to get a new tv as a joint Christmas present. I did some research on Amazon and came up with this little beauty! I can’t tell you how pleased we are with everything about it and would certainly recommend this to others. Just one little hiccup - the delivery was two days late because the company did not have my contact details to make the necessary delivery arrangements. I called them and they turned up as scheduled and set up the tv for me. The soccer looks fantastic! If we were do buy a larger tv for the living room we would definitely buy another Samsung.

I purchased the LN40B750 before New Years 2009 as a replacement for an old CRT for our main floor living room. I spent a significant amount of time online looking at reviews and going to stores to see the TV and its competition in person. I’ll break it down with the okay, the good, and the great (I have nothing bad to say about this TV or anything with Amazon or delivery).

The Okay:

Widgets are slow to load in particular when loading YouTube video. I ran a network cable to the TV instead of spending the $80 on the wireless adapter. This is negated by being able to watch TV while they are loading but it is definitely not a click and go at Internet speeds. I have not yet installed the software on my home PC for photo viewing so I cannot weigh in on that yet. I do like that they offer Amazon VOD which I have not yet used but to plan to (Blockbuster VOD is also offered). It is disappointing that Netflix is not an available Widget and hope that this is corrected soon. The news and sports widgets are okay at best. You can get headlines but you can’t get the rest of the story. I also think that the sports widgets should allow you to pick teams to follow and have their scores, schedules and news items available similar to setting up the weather widget (another one where you probably have 10 other quicker choices for a forecast).

Picture in picture is not usable for folks with a set top box and Samsung’s implementation is not the best. It does only work on the direct input to the TV (i.e. it does not work through the HDMI inputs).

The Good:

The ultra clear panel looks good and the TOC with Grey is a much nicer than the Red on the 120Hz TV. I keep it as good and not great for the following reasons. The bezel is very thick compared to the competitive Sony. I really like the thin set bezel of the Sony. The Sony looks like a much larger picture than the Samsung due to the bezel. However the Samsung gloss finish especially on the screen creates a better look and picture in my eyes. It will create a glare from lighting and windows. This was a problem with the glass CRTs too though and is easily overcome here. The TV has plenty of contrast to overcome most any glare. Our set has both lamps and south windows directly opposite the TV and we have no issues during the day with glare. Lamps and the sun do reflect off the shiny bezel though so you may find that distracting.

This set also does a good job with non-HD video such as VHS (my complaint here is lack of a Super Video input).

The set is thin but is obviously not as thin as the LED back lit models. However in spending a lot of time in front of both at the store, the picture quality of this model relative to the EDGE lit LED TVs is clearly superior. Now if you really want great picture quality move up to the true BACK Lit LED models. Blacks there look like a plasma but you are going to pay for that step up. This is the best picture quality of any LCD TV I have seen including the Sony XBR TVs.

The Great:

The color level and picture are fantastic. I feel the settings out of the box are great. However, CNet provides some nice tweaks to the movie settings which I have used with a Sony PS3 to show a fantastic picture though I didn’t spend time going back and forth to see how much different it was from the factory settings. I like that each input can be adjusted to the settings you want. For example my PS3 retains the movie settings (tweaked per CNet) while my Digital Set top Box is set to Standard, etc.

Automotion Plus creates a beautiful picture. I don’t think the 240Hz by itself offers anything over the 120Hz so don’t buy this set on that alone. The Grey color pushed me up to this TV. That said sporting events in HD look FANTASTIC. The configuration of how the Automotion is a nice touch and there are built in configurations that allow you to tune for the event you are watching. It does create an almost live feel for normal programming but that can be compensated by adjusting the settings or by turning it off.

For those leery of online ordering, Amazon and the delivery company were both great. Delivery was fast and friendly. This is my second TV that I have ordered online. The first being a 46″ Samsung DLP several years ago.

Overall this is a fantastic TV and Amazon beats everyone that I found on price including Crutchfield. Free shipping and no tax make this a very attractive offer. I highly recommend this TV.

Have used the TV for about 1 month now. Picture quality is excellent. Since this is our first LCD HDTV I really don’t have anything to compare it to. Blue-Ray movies are fantastic both on disk or streamed over the internet.

The widgets are pretty much useless and since getting a blue-ray player so we could get netflix movies the widgets will not load over the internet. They worked when the TV was connected directly to the router but not since going through the Blue-Ray player. Probably something I could do to remedy that but haven’t tried as I don’t see much use for them anyhow.

Overall very happy with the TV and would buy it again.

I had to write a review to tell everyone about this TV ..First off I bought this TV to replace the old Projection TV and a Tube TV and being new to the digitial TV’s I have to say I was put off at first .

I could tell the picture was clearer than my Sony Projection TV and looked more vibrant and at the same time it had a slight double edge just slightly enough to annoy me so I took it back to the store.

I replaced it with the same model of Samsung I had before and got it home it looked exactly the same. I have dish network and I called them they said the new TV’s need HD to look perfect and I had them come out and put HD on the tv all I can say is WOW . What a difference I have never seen a clearer picture on any TV in my life every detail is amazing and flawless and I have friends with LCD 1080i in HD and this TV outshines them in colors and clarity.

The noise reduction should never be turned on and there is the sharpness you want to keep around 36 and for brightness I keep it around 50 it is too bright above that setting. If the people are plastic looking in the face you have it set up wrong in the NR or Saturation. I am way picky about my TV picture and thought I was going to have to pay 3 times as much to get this kind of quality it’s like looking out a crystal clear window .If you never hook up HD you will never know what your missing IF you do hoo up HD you won’t go without it ever again. I also see it shows 1980 X 1080i when on HD I thought they rated it at 720P I am not complaining..

One more thing the TV does not get hot or have any artifacts or screen burn in problems . The 42 Plasma I bought gets hot in back it is a Zenith and it worries me a bit since I just bought it.

I also wantd to tell you all the new TV’s are made for digital and HD if you are picky about the picture you will end up installing HD if the TV is 50 or over.

I found this TV new at B&HPhoto.com for $699; Price includes S&H & no tax! My first concern prior to buying was the TV being 720p… My local Best Buy had it on display next to several 1080Ps and to my surprise this TV looked better or the same as the ones priced b/w 1500 to 2000 range. Still I had some doubt, but the price was unreal, so I bought it from B & H Photo.

Now that I’ve used it for a while I am delighted to say that picture is excellent! I’ve watched a few cartoon movies in blue Ray with my kids and the movies have a 3-D look to them. Terminator Salvation, the newest Harry Potter release in Blue Ray are amazing. You see things that you had not seen before.

Pros:

Picture Quality —- Do not concern yourself with 1080P if you buy this TV. Even though it is a 720P, I promise you will not notice a difference

Over the airway HD Picture —- I use an antenna to get over the air Local HD programming and picture is superior,

Standard TV signal —- The picture image from standard (non-HD) is ok, but most programs I watch are in HD so this is of no concern for me

Screen size 50″ for the price

Refresh rate, contrast, blacks, also this TV has a 3D engine built in for playing games in 3D — I’ll never use this but it is a plus

Reflection is not bad and TV has features built in to help reduce this

Has a good selection of inputs/outputs

Cons:

As with most LCDs/Plasmas— “Speaker quality/sound”— it is Ok, but you’ll want to upgrade…..I bought an all in one home theater system and for me it does the job and is way better than the speakers that come with the TV, however if you are not a big movie watcher than I would not worry about upgrading.

“Remote” —- This remote is a little tooooooo busy and might be an issue for some.

“on/off music” — annoying, every time you turn the TV on or off a short tone plays.. You might be able to turn this off, but i’m not sure….petty I know.

I’ve had this TV for 5 months, and it already has 5 games burned into the screen. One of witch after only 3 hours of play. Also network logos like Nick Jr and Sifi channel are burned in. why dose it have a game mode if you can’t play games on it, you can’t even watch most TV channels because there logo will burn into your screen. What good is a TV you can’t watch? No help from Samsung with this. VERY UNSATISFIED!!!

PS. My complaint is with Samsung, not Amazon.

I went to Target to get a new LCD tv. I looked at them and the Sony seemed to have the best picture, but it was close with several others as well. I have always been of the mind set that when in doubt, buy the Sony product. I have never been really disappointed with a Sony product.

I went home and found that Amazon had it much cheaper than Target. I ordered it, and a few days later it was delivered. No problems!

The TV is great, nice picture, PS3 looks superb. It’s a Sony!

This model has top notch picture quality and improves on my previous 32″ Sony LCD. Then, 18 months later, or 6 months after the warranty expired, it won’t turn on anymore due to its faulty power supply. I was shocked because of my previous reliability experience with Sony TVs. Then I found out that the Sony Service Facility here in Burbank, CA no longer exists. They have other locations, but they don’t service consumer products. Sony’s website will list authorized independent service providers, but most of those providers in my area have bad consumer rating ([…] or reviews from Google Maps!). So the only choice was a nationwide home service, that charges $99 just to diagnose (but will deduct it from the repair fee if you choose their service). Fortunately, the credit card that I used to buy this will extend the warranty. I just filed a claim for authorization from the credit card company for the repair.

Note that the previous 32″ Sony LCD is still stable, and was manufactured in Japan. I wish they have the same quality control for this one.

November 13 update: So after having the extended warranty approved by Amex two weeks later, the service guy came in with the sealed box of the power supply part that was shipped from Sony San Diego. The box didn’t show any sign of stress, and the part was wrapped in bubbles. The repairman inspected the part first, and guess what - the power supply board was cracked ! That tells a lot about Sony’s quality control. Now I have to wait another week for them to get a replacement from Sony. Cross my fingers. Never buying another Sony product.

 “Fantastic picture once I got rid of the clouding effect!” 2009-10-03

I’ve had this TV for about a week now, and though it was a rollercoaster of emotions at first, I’ve grown to really like it, and would recommend it– my only reservation the possibility of backlight clouding.

First of all, the very first thing I noticed after setting it up was a large but dim purple splotch directly in the center of the screen. My heart immediately sank as this was the dreaded Bravia clouding, or mura, effect I’d read so much about. In other words the backlighting is not completely consistent at all places of the screen and it showed anywhere from black to very dark purple in dark scenes. This is a common problem that a large percentage of the Bravia and XBR Lcds have problems with. Do a google search on “Bravia clouding” for more information.

To be fair, it was barely noticeable while watching a normal “lit” TV of movie scene, and my girlfriend was completely oblivious to it… But in the black screen pause between channels, dark scenes, and movie credits this purple blob stood out to me like a 14″ Lucky Charms marshmallow– taunting me for throwing away my hard earned cash…

From what I found online, Sony won’t officially recognize this as a defect, and exchanging it for another would have been expensive (for shipping). I decided to try and fix it, and it worked! And while it worked for me, it probably won’t work for everyone and you could potentially ruin your TV. Be very careful! The thin plastic screens are fragile and you could scratch or permanently discolor it. I took a very clean and soft microfiber cloth, and with the TV on a dark paused screen began to *very lightly* massage the discolored area in circular motions–just enough to make a discolored spot where I touched it. Within 30 seconds I managed to move the spot near the bottom. Eventually I was able to keep moving it towards the lower edge until the spot disappeared entirely! And after two days it hasn’t come back.

Even if it doesn’t work, the picture settings you choose can help lessen this effect as well, especially if you lower your backlight and enable the power saver mode. The initial picture settings out of the box are just terrible with a harsh blue tint and far too much contrast and picture. I would recommend something closer to this for normal viewing: Mode=Std, Backlight=4, picture=75, bright=50, color=50, hue=R1, temp=warm2, sharpness=10, noise/mpeg=low, and turn off all advanced settings. Search google for more recommendations or just play around with it some until you find what works best for your use.

Once the picture was adjusted the picture was beautiful– even better than my new 50″ Panasonic Viera plasma. Blacks are deep black, whites are bright and clear, and HD content especially shines. Standard definition content looks ok, but the issues there are probably more the signal quality coming in than the TV. I personally do not notice much of a difference between 60 and 120hz. So I wouldn’t let that scare you off. Also the sound is better than I was expecting. Certainly good enough for day-to-day TV watching.

I guess my only reservations, besides the fixed clouding, are the remote isn’t my favorite. At this price I would have liked a better feel and light up buttons. Also the menu system is like a Sony PSP–not very user friendly to me. But those are nitpicking… This is a considered a “budget” model for Sony, but for the price you get quite high picture and sound quality, making this a very impressive value. And the bezel looks much nicer than any of the competing models I’d considered.

 “Worst DVD player I’ve ever encountered” 2009-12-23

When I moved to Japan from the States a little over a year ago, I brought a lot of my DVDs with. After being here for a few months, I invested in a HDTV and wanted to pick up a DVD player that would both upscale and also had no region coding. This model seemed like the best deal and had a great price.

At first, it worked great. But after about nine months, it started to act up. The first problem is that the HDMI output isn’t so great and sometimes cuts out (I know this isn’t a problem with the TV as I’ve never had problems when I’ve hooked up either my laptop or my Xbox 360 to the HDMI and I have tested both these on both HDMI ports with no problems).

But the HDMI problem is really a minor one and it occurs infrequently. The major problem is that less than a year after I bought it, the player had this tendency to tell me that there was no disc. It would do this sporadically but now, every time I put a DVD into the player, I’m told there’s no disc. I’ve tried cleaning the player several times but to no avail. I’ve cleaned this player more times in the past month than I ever cleaned any previous players in a year. And yet it never seems to work.

The third problem, which has just began recently, is that the player frequently freezes and locks up. At first when this would happen, all I’d have to do was turn the power off. But now, I need to unplug the player whenever it locks up like that. Sometimes it will freeze up in the middle of a movie, sometimes it will freeze when I select a menu option, and sometimes it will freeze on the disc load.

There’s a reason this player was so cheap — it is hands down the worst player I have ever used. Other players I owned lasted several years without giving me any trouble. This one couldn’t even make it past the first year before making me want to throw it out the window.

Load times are long, but this player has not failed me yet. It plays all codec types off DVD(+/-)R, and the upscaling is a nice feature too. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have have more support for external USB devices. Seemd to take USB Thumb drives ok, but not my external hard drives I’ve connected.

Mainly I purchased this product watching DIVX movies. And I hooked up to my Philips 42 LCD. Quality and buffer rate is good. One problem though, if a DIVX file more than 1GB,it has hard time to read it.

I had high hopes for this unit when I ordered it, but when it arrived it would not even open the tray for me! I had 3 options… Send it back, or throw it in the trash, or void the warranty and open it myself to see if I could get it working. Fortunately for me, I have some experience with that sort of thing and so I opened it and coaxed it to work for me. So far it still works after a few movies, but after such a shaky beginning I am not expecting it to keep working for long. Sorry, but I can not give a positive review to something that was DOA, regardless of subsequent performance or features. And it is NOT multi-region unless you void the warranty and unlock the regions. My old $30 Magnavox is several years old and still works fine, so when this one quits I’ll just go back to using it. The bottom line… This is a risky choice.

On my roof on a short mast I just barely get about 12 channels. Unfortunately the boneheads who broadcast here in San Diego put their towers on 3 mountains at 3 different directions from the center of the city so no matter which way you point the antenna you have at least one weak signal or no signal. Worked almost as well propped up in my bedroom. Barely worked in my attic. Go figure. I suspect it’s just not a very good antenna. Probably work with a rotor, but for me an indoor would have worked just as well.

Funny, I moved to the city a long time ago and threw out my analog antenna a long time ago. Now with digital TV, I need an antenna again. I did not think much of this antenna when I bought it, I was just looking for something to let me get a few of the digital stations. I installed it on the roof and whammo all of the stations came in (most @~ 70% strength). It looks flimsy out of the box and I was worried about it falling down but it has survived to nasty wind storms and has not moved an inch. I also hooked my receiver up to this antenna and it improved my FM singnal a bit (although this is clearly not an FM antenna). I bought this in combo with the Winegard DS-1111 that fits right on to the back of my Sat dish. Pretty easy to install for the semi-handy guy.

I purchased both the matching Channel Master STEALTHtenna 3010 antenna and the Channel Master 3038 preamplifier and carefully installed them on my roof in a temporary configuration to find the ideal mounting location for the mast. Note that the antenna comes with a passive circuit board which is replaced when you add the preamplifier. Both the passive circuit board and preamplifier lack any mechanical strength for the coax threaded barrel connector. While my experience was directly related to a design flaw of the preamplifier, this scenario would have played out the same had I left the original passive circuit board in the antenna. My experience, and why I recommend you do NOT purchase this antenna: When it was time to transfer to antenna to the permanent mast I attempted to release the coax cable downlead (hex nut on threaded barrel) which snapped off the connector. I examined the circuit board of this antenna to see if it could be repaired, and discovered that the threaded barrel connector was simply a few solder joints on the circuit board - there is no mechanical strength to this design at all! BEWARE. First, if you haven’t purchased this product, then DO NOT. If you have purchased it, you will need to attach your coax connector VERY CAREFULLY and NEVER attempt to remove it in the future. You must ASSUME that if you have need to change out the coax cable for any reason the connector will NOT come off the antenna. Therefore, you will have to CUT the cable and reterminate (thus adding a signal loss by splicing). If I hadn’t already discarded the shipping package, receipt, etc., I would attempt to return this product.

I wanted a small and easy to install outdoor antenna for OTA DTV. I decided on the CM 3010 and bought Channel Master’s chimney mount kit and mast. I bought the mast from an Amazon Associate and was not pleased with the packing because they didn’t put enough tape on the ends and when I received the package one end was open (probably from the mast ramming the end of the box during shipping). The only thing in the box was the mast and I don’t know if anything fell out. But it was a mast so how much more could there have been in there?

The antenna requires some assembly but it isn’t too difficult as the instructions are fairly clear.

I installed this antenna right next to a satellite antenna I installed using a similar chimney mounting kit. I’m about 25 miles from the most of the broadcast towers in the area and I just pointed it in the right direction using a Silva compass. The 3010 is light and not too hard to handle so I’d say it’s reasonable for someone to install it without helpers (I did).

The cable attaches to the bottom so a good connector probably makes a difference and it is sealed by a weather boot which will be hard to put on if the cable has a connector on it. I ran some RG6 coax to the antenna, slipped on the boot then attached an LRC connector to the cable. No problem if you have the tools and parts. After that I just had to screw the connector on and slide the boot into position.

If someone is concerned about appearance it is a nice antenna because it isn’t too big and doesn’t have much of an antenna look. Sitting next to the sat dish it doesn’t stand out. If it’s mounted low it won’t stand out much because of it’s flat profile.

The resulting television picture is very nice with good signal strength. I have not noticed any problems with reception (except in the case when I tried it with an inexpensive DTV adapter box and the problem there was probably the adapter itself because it isn’t all that great with any antenna I’ve tried). Great reception when the 3010 is attached to a Channel Master 7000 adapter box. It’s a VHF/UHF antenna so there are no issues with high and low band VHF (it covers 2 through 69 so that’s the full range, but note it’s range is 30 miles for UHF and 45 miles for VHF/FM). Someone I know who lives about 10 miles from the broadcast location has the same antenna and reported great performance.

Although it doesn’t seem to perform noticeably better than the twenty year old Winegard UHF/VHF/FM antenna in the attic, it consumes a LOT less space. I like it enough I’m considering purchasing a second one with an eave mount rather than mess with a distribution amp.

If someone is having problems with a 3010 at distances of less than 30 miles from the towers and with minimal tall structures in the line-of-sight that might be causing multipath interference I suggest checking the wiring of the “wings” onto the circuit board in the body of the antenna. If those receiving elements weren’t connected when it was assembled performance will suffer. And if the connector wasn’t installed on the cable with a coax stripper and a compression/crimp tool that matches the connector it might be good to check that part of the cable.

I live in a difficult area. Nashville’s towers are spread about 75 degrees apart, I live on the bottom floor, and the rest of the building shields my living room from the towers. I don’t have access to the roof or an attic.

However, I was able to mount this antenna on a tripod stand about 8′ above my patio. While there are some new UHF stations which I can’t get, most of these are preachers.

I get all the VHF stations, and all the UHF I need.

Perhaps, if I lived further from the towers, I would need the amplifier, but this antenna works for me as is.

Got this for playing region 2 dvd’s & its played every one I’ve put in it. The reason it only gets three stars is the processor gets lost & the machine will lock up or go back & forth between 2 operations.

I now give 10 seconds between pushing any buttons & sometimes it gets lost just changing DVD’s. I am able to cure this by unplugging the machine (no poweer at all), for 15 minutes & then being deliberate about starting it with the power button not, I say not, the open close button. I push them in order 10 seconds apart. Its a lot to write but not much to do. If I had a good processor I’d rate it five stars but oh well its 3 Stars.

Price was excellent.

I just received my Phillips DVP5990 - Multi Region DVD Player and I just had to comment that this product is great! I lived in the UK for 3 1/2 years and amassed a large collection of Region 2 (PAL) DVDs. I still buy and receive gifts from people from Amazon.co.uk in Region 2 format. I had a DVD player that I had hacked to be region free, but it recently died and thought it was finally time to invest in a region free player. I was very impressed with other customer reviews (though I am leary of the lifespan and will continue to use my other DVD player for the majority of my DVD viewings). I also couldn’t believe the reasonable price (I had priced region free players a few years ago and it was astounding how expensive they were). The set-up was extremely easy (plug in the red-white-yellow cables that COME WITH the DVD player to it and your TV, plug in the power cord and you are ready to go). I dropped in a Region 2 just to test it and it worked a treat (no need to select a region or input a hack code to get it set-up for viewing a DVD outside Region 1)! I’m probably going to get an HDMI cable as I have an HD TV, but I just wanted to be sure it worked before I invested in the pricer cable as I knew from another review that it did come with cables in the box). Overall I am completely satisfied with the unit and the price. It is extremely sleek, light and takes up very limited space. Even if it only last 12 months, I will most likely buy the same unit to replace it as it was just so easy to install and use.

Overall i am not satisfied with this product, not too long after buying i started having issues with the audio cutting out on my hdmi inputs, sometimes for as long as 10 Seconds, now the hdmi inputs wont detect any signal from either my XBOX 360 or Sony Blu Ray, i had to unplug the power cord in order to get it back to normal.

Sony has let us all down and its not what it used to be, i would not recomend this product, i’ve owned a Vizio for over three years now, and no problems whatsoever.

Picked up this TV with a bundled N460 Blu-Ray. I would consider myself a demanding user, but not an audio/videophile. I feel as though the picture quality is excellent. I use an HDMI cable to a Blu-ray player, Blu-ray quality is excellent, DVD’s also look ver good, HD Football over cable was also excellent. I sit approximately 10′ from the TV and have it on a 24″ tall TV stand and the viewing is excellent. Making picture adjustments is easy, the menus are simple to navigate. The Bravia Sync feature is very handy- for example, I insert a Blu-ray disc and it is smart enough to then turn on the TV & select the proper input. Also very handy to be able to use any remote for any device. For the price, I believe this is a good purchase. I chose this over the other Bravia 46″ newer model because the newer model has an “eye” that senses for motion in the room and then turns off the TV if it doesn’t sense motion. Sounded annyoing to me and I didn’t want to chance if it could be disabled or not. Definitely pleased with my purchase and I have renewed faith in Sony quality.

Almost forgot to mention- these are the settings I’m using that I found posted online- Seem to be working out excellent for all-around viewing of both HD Cable sports as well as Blu-ray & DVDs. I haven’t played any console games, nor do I plan to. Thanks to whoever posted these originally:

Sharpness : 6 (perfect. i believe its the lower the better here. Please only increase this if you are fairly far away from your set. But 6 gives very eye pleasing results without the ugly super sharp image)

Advanced Settings

Black Corrector : OFF (causes black crush)

Advanced CE : OFF (I used to be a fan but ive realized ACE dims whites and alters skin tones to almost pale)

Gamma : OFF (do not touch this)

Clear White : OFF (not really needed after all)

Live Color : off

White Balance : Factory default (all zero)

Motion Enhancer : STANDARD (games and blu rays. THIS is key to having WOW picture too. No lag at all.)

Cinemotion : Auto2 (Auto2 for Blu-rays -OFF for games)

Game Mode : Off. (gives a less smooth image but also a sharper one. Keep that Motion Enhancer ON.)

When I decided on the TV the entire sale thru Amazon was flawless. I purchased a Sony Bravia V-series 46 inch from Crutchfield. The service and the delivery was right on time. The delivery man put the TV in the house , attached the base and placed the unit on the cabinet. He checked the unit for damage and plugged the unit on to see if it worked. This is service!!! Bought this for Christmas for my daughter to replace an old 7″ DVD player. It was a bit more pricey but we wanted something that would hold up and last longer for her. She loves to watch movies when we travel. She loves everything about it. The picture is crisp and clear, sound quality is great, and it’s easy to use. She loves the pink color as well. Our household DVD player broke recently, so we hooked this up to our big TV to watch a movie together and it worked great for that as well. The DVD player looked so cute. I knew our daughter was going to love the look of it when she opened it up for Christmas. Unfortunately when I opened it up before wrapping it, the screen was smashed. I can not tell you how the unit worked as we sent it right back and received a coupon worth the price of the unit for use on Amazon. We really would have preferred to have a credit on our credit card instead.
