tv turns itself off. Less than a week after I bought this TV, LG 26LU55 will periodically turn itself off. The problem is not a sleep timer as I have them set to off.
Also, the LG interface does not let you label your favorite channels. This is a problem if you don’t pay for a digital TV cable service.
This LG 32″ LCD has been a Complete Disaster. This set was not purchased through Amazon.com, we received this TV as a gift in December 2007. After hooking LG 26LU55 up LG 26LU55 worked for just over a month. Then the video and sound would drop out, a negative image would appear on the left half of the screen, and the set would not respond to the remote. Had to be manually unplugged. This set is under a 2 year warranty. It’s now early August of 2008 and the warranty service center has “repaired” the set 6 times. The last time LG 26LU55 worked for a whole month, but the other day LG 26LU55 happened all over again. Only this time the screen just goes black, no video or sound and again LG 26LU55 must be manually unplugged. The last time LG 26LU55 had been serviced (by replacing a PC board on the main board) we were told if the problem reoccured the set would be replaced by LG. This will be the 7th service call on this TV and we are expecting them to place an order for replacement. The only bright side to all of this is that LG 26LU55 was a gift under warranty. We’ll certainly never, ever purchase or recommend an LG product.
Update 9/18/2008: The PC board which needs to be replaced has been on backorder from the factory for 4 weeks now. I guess they can’t make them as fast as they need to replace them. We’ve been unable to use the LG TV for almost 2 months now. They’ve placed us “on the list” of customers to be called “as soon as the part comes in”. We’ve had this LG 32″ LCD TV for 9 months now and have had use of LG 26LU55 for probably for only 5 months because of operational failures. Check back later for the next exciting story in the saga of the crappy LG TV.
September 30th, 2008 and the repair service came and replaced the main board. The serviceman said that LG had engineered the board incorrectly and had to replace them in all LG models affected. Which is why LG 26LU55 took over a month to return with a new part. Obviously they couldn’t make the corrective boards fast enough.
October 28th, 2008 - the LG TV is now acting up again. This time it’s different problems. The sound cuts out for several seconds at a time every 15 to 30 seconds or so. And the picture develops streaks of video “clatter” in random locations on the screen. Sometimes the entire picture just starts coming apart in pieces and we’re left with an unviewable image. Placed another warranty service request with Boscov’s Repair Service. Check back for further developments.
Beware of LG. I bought one LG 42 inch plus several 26 inch and 32 inch LCD TVs for my business including the model listed above. Six of them went out in less than 2 weeks. That works out to a 33 percent failure rate which is totally unacceptable. LG 26LU55 shows a complete lack of quality control. Even though the problems were all different from each other, the repairman said LG 26LU55 was the main board on the 4 TVs he is working on. He has not started work on the other two yet. Then, of course, the part is on back order. At this rate I estimate that as many as 70 to 80 percent could fail in just a few months.
I also found out that LG put out a bulletin about these problems on some of their models before I even ordered these TVs. This clearly shows that LG knew they were selling defective TVs, but sold them anyway. Sure, LG 26LU55 does have a nice and bright picture, but are you willing to take a chance considering the odds? Would you trust a company that knowingly sells defective products? Are you sure that you want that LG TV?
This is not the only problems I have had with LG. I also have a washer that has been repaired twice. Then there was the cell phone that promptly went out and I got rid of it.
Apparently LG is not a reliable brand, especially their TVs, and should be avoided.
